Calla Lilies

These calla lilies have employed several interesting background techniques. The painting starts out very wet with background colors being laid in. After it dries, I sanded watercolor pencils over a stencil then misted it - the stencil shapes stay put after they are dry. Then the "stripes" are painted in alternating colors and focusing on the paint color that is most predominate in it. Highlights are then painted on the white calla lilies.
